Overcoming the Challenges of 12V Power and Space with Slimline Lithium Batteries
For full-time tourers, managing 12V power and space is often a major challenge. The 105Ah Slimline Lithium Batteries are designed to address both issues effectively.
Housed in a narrow 50mm heavy-duty aluminium case, these batteries are perfect for mounting behind the rear seats in a 4×4 cab or on the wall of a canopy, freeing up valuable space for other gear. The batteries can be mounted in any orientation and come with eight brackets, offering flexibility in installation.
Engineered with high-quality aluminium-encased prismatic cells, the 105Ah battery weighs just 14kg and boasts excellent vibration resistance, making it ideal for cross-country trips. With a full 105Ah of usable power, it's perfect for running 12V fridges, lighting, and pumps, and can even handle larger items.
The battery features an advanced internal Battery Management System (BMS) that supports a 200A continuous discharge, allowing it to power a 2000W inverter. This means you can run 240V appliances like coffee machines, toasters, and induction cooktops without a hitch—a capability not previously available in batteries of this size. Additionally, the BMS allows the batteries to be linked in parallel or series with up to four others, creating larger battery banks of up to 420Ah or systems up to 48V.
These batteries are certified to meet stringent safety and performance standards, have been thoroughly tested by an internationally renowned lab, and are backed by a comprehensive 5-year warranty.
Certified Performance and Safety Standards
Hardkorr's lithium batteries are rigorously tested and certified to meet all required and optional international standards for performance and safety, including:
- UN 38.3: Safety testing of lithium metal/lithium-ion batteries during transport.
- IEC 62133-2:2017: Safety testing under intended use and reasonably foreseeable misuse (including vibration testing).
- IEC 62619:2022: Safety standards for lithium batteries in industrial use.
In addition, the manufacturing facility adheres to the following international standards:
- ISO 9001: Ensures implementation of quality management systems.
- ISO 14001: Ensures implementation of environmental management systems.
Bluetooth® Monitoring App
Hardkorr’s lithium batteries feature Bluetooth® connectivity for easy monitoring of key data via the Hardkorr Battery app, available on iOS® and Android® devices. The app provides:
- Key Information: State of charge, current voltage, available capacity, status, and health.
- Detailed Information: Current voltage, net current in/out, status, cycle life, and temperature.
- Cell Status: Voltage of each cell to ensure balance.
- Contact Details: Quick access to Hardkorr’s website, address, and email for support.
The app also logs any instances where a Battery Management System (BMS) protection circuit is activated, including over-charge, over-discharge, under-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature. These logs can be accessed by clicking the shield icon in the top-right corner of any screen.
More Usable Power, Longer Life
When comparing batteries, it's important to understand the difference between nominal and C20 capacity. Reputable manufacturers, including Hardkorr, quote battery capacity in amp-hours at C20 (the number of amps a battery can deliver when discharged at a constant rate over 20 hours). This ensures you can trust that the stated capacity of 100Ah will genuinely deliver 5A per hour for 20 hours before becoming fully discharged.
Some manufacturers may advertise the nominal capacity, which can be up to 20% higher than the C20 rating, leading to inflated claims of battery performance. Hardkorr values transparency and always quotes the C20 rating, ensuring you receive the accurate and reliable power you expect.
Why Upgrade to Lithium?
- Long Cycle Life: Lasts up to 10x longer than Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries.
- More Usable Capacity: Safely use up to 80% of capacity, and 99% in emergencies (versus 50%/70% for SLA).
- Fast Charging: Charges up to four times faster than equivalent AGM batteries.
- Lightweight: Approximately half the weight of equivalent SLA batteries.
- Environmentally Friendly: Non-toxic, contains no acid, and can be installed in any orientation.
Handy Remote Reset Switch
The Battery Management System (BMS) in Hardkorr lithium batteries includes a protection circuit that activates if the voltage drops below 10.0V, putting the battery into 'sleep' mode. Resetting the battery after an over-discharge used to be challenging and could risk damage, but Hardkorr offers a simple solution.
With the included remote reset switch, you can easily reset the over-discharge circuit. Simply connect the switch to the socket on the top of the battery and hold the button for 5 seconds. The switch can also be flush-mounted into your 12V setup for convenience.
